At G4G Africa, our mission is clear: to foster healing and recovery among survivors by supporting them in accessing mental health care and seeking justice. As a survivor-led grassroots mental health organization, we are deeply rooted in the realities of the communities we serve and we know that traditional models of mental health care don’t work for everyone. That’s why we are building something different: accessible, trauma-informed, and community-driven support that meets people where they are.
For too long, mental health care has been out of reach physically, emotionally, financially, and culturally for many survivors, adolescents, caregivers, and persons with disabilities. At G4G, we’re changing that by simplifying access through innovative, grassroots approaches that make care relevant, respectful, and reachable.
Our Kigoda Therapy Circles are safe, intimate spaces where survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and their caregivers gather to share, connect, and heal. These therapy circles are peer-led, trauma-informed, and grounded in local cultural practices, allowing participants to speak freely in a non-judgmental environment. They are more than therapy they are spaces of transformation and solidarity.
In rural and underserved areas, access to professional mental health care is often limited or nonexistent. Our Mobile Mental Health Clinics travel to the heart of these communities to offer on-site, trauma-informed counseling and referrals. These clinics make it possible for survivors and their families to access services in familiar settings, reducing both logistical and emotional barriers to care.
Young people, especially university students, face academic stress, social isolation, and uncertainty about the future. G4G Africa addresses this through tailored outreach on campuses and accessible tele-counseling. In collaboration with institutions like the University of Nairobi (Mombasa Campus) and Technical University of Mombasa, we ensure that students can get timely, confidential support.
Education is the first step to change. With the support of Aga Khan University, we have trained more than 290 individuals ncluding religious leaders, chiefs, and survivors to recognize signs of mental distress, offer initial support, and spread mental health awareness. This work helps communities respond to challenges with empathy and understanding.
Mental health stigma thrives in silence. Our Fireside Chat series, hosted at the Little Theatre Club in Mombasa, uses storytelling, dance therapy, and group dialogue to make conversations about healing accessible and empowering. These events are not just informative they’re deeply moving and community-building.
Every Kigoda circle, mobile clinic, trained adult, and open conversation is a step toward a trauma-informed society. Healing becomes a shared journey and resilience, a collective strength. At G4G Africa, we believe that simplified access to mental healthcare transforms not just individuals but entire communities.
Whether you're a potential partner, donor, mental health advocate, or someone seeking support, we invite you to be part of this movement. Together, we can continue to break barriers and bring mental health care within reach for all.
